Food & drink

With pubs a-plenty, vineyards, breweries, and many markets, there is much to delight the tastebuds in the ‘larder of London’.

The Chilterns National Landscape is just 35 miles from London. In the past, trading from this area with the capital would have been vital to provide the food and produce needed for the population to grow and thrive. With fertile, rolling farmland, abundant cherry orchards, prosperous watercress farms and traditional wood crafting, it is no surprise that the Chilterns was once known as the ‘larder of London’. Today, historic market towns, tucked-away villages, farmland, chalk-fed streams and ancient woods all hint at the growing, trading and, of course, enjoyment of good local food and drink.

Whether you’re looking for a quintessentially English pub, a chic restaurant, a local farmers’ market or a top-class vineyard, they can all be found in the Chilterns. Visit a chosen establishment from our many highlights, or enjoy one of our foodie towns, taking in historic sights and independent shops after filling your boots in charming cafés!
